Paul Kam founded BakLok Advisors after a career in finance across Australia, Hong Kong and Shenzhen — spanning commercial banking, debt and equity markets and institutional coverage within the Financial Institutions Group of Hong Kong's largest bank. At Hongkong’s largest bank, he faced hostile questioning from an independent compliance monitor’s team under a US Department of Justice deferred prosecution agreement.

What that proximity clarified is now the centre of the methodology: in high-stakes institutional settings, communication is not polish applied to expertise. It is the architecture through which expertise reaches another person.

The same discipline now serves a wider set of rooms. A board and a family council differ in furniture, not in consequence. Both turn on one person's judgement, spoken aloud, at the moment it matters.

Hong Kong born — with a stubborn mother who insisted on local schooling from age 8 to 13. More than twenty years in the local city: its schools, its neighbourhoods, its working Cantonese. Not the expatriates' Hong Kong. The one that does the grunt work.
